Academic Background

Mr Foley has an MBBS from Guy’s Hospital Medical School, London, and after general surgical training in the Royal Air Force, he joined the Institute of Urology, London. Here, he researched and did his higher training in female urology, bladder dysfunction and spinal cord injury.

Mr Steven Foley is a revered consultant urological surgeon based in Reading and Ashtead, who specialises in male and female urinary incontinence, prostate disease including prostate cancer and bladder problems alongside female urology, haematuria (blood in urine) and painful bladder conditions.

Mr Foley, who is a leading name in his field that has received significant attention for his pioneering work in female and male incontinence, is highly-experienced in all aspects of urology. In his skilled practice, he has built up a wide range of surgical and non-surgical management options for the conditions he treats.

He works closely with the physiotherapy department at Berkshire Independent Hospital and the Berkshire Continence Service as part of his clinical practise, where he offers a comprehensive diagnostic and investigative service for continence and general urology problems.

Mr Foley has lectured extensively in female urology and male incontinence on an international level. He has presented in Australia, Argentina and the USA, as well as in Europe, on the topics of incontinence, painful bladder conditions and recurrent urinary tract infections. His research has also been featured in various peer-reviewed journals and Mr Foley is a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCSEng).

His reputation as an innovator of the surgical management of male incontinence, particularly the ‘Male Sling’ following prostate cancer surgery, means that he regularly leads training and teaching sessions on performing this and various other techniques, too. These sessions attract fellow surgeons from around the world.
