Mr. Matt Cherko

Mr Cherko is a Consultant ENT Surgeon at The Royal Berkshire Hospital

Specialist Interests

  • Disorders of voice, swallow and breathing
  • Thyroid and parathyroid surgery
  • Salivary gland surgery
  • Paediatric ENT

Academic Background

After graduating from King’s College London in 2009, he completed his surgical training across centres in both the Thames Valley and London regions. A fellowship in thyroid and parathyroid surgery spanning Oxford and Berkshire has provided him with a prime understanding of the regional thyroid network, and afforded the benefit of working with both endocrine and ENT surgeons in the field.

This was succeeded by completing a prestigious fellowship in complex laryngology at the National Airway Reconstruction Centre, Charing Cross, London. There, he gained extensive experience treating a unique cohort of patients with a vast presentation of disorders affecting the voice, swallow and breathing; performing a high volume of both surgical airway procedures and interventional clinic-based procedures. He has a strong link with and appreciation of allied professionals in treating these disorders such as speech and swallow therapists.

Professional Profile

Beyond clinical work he has a keen interest in medical education and training with particular focus on emergency simulation-based training, through his faculty role on national resuscitation courses. He has also co-authored book chapters on thyroid and voice surgery, and his research interests saw him occupy the role of regional trainee research champion for national clinical studies in ENT.
